An auditing company has signed a memorandum of agreement with the Davao City National High School (DCNHS) as it is providing the senior school students of the public schools with an e-learning tool for them to be able to become productive when the complete this segment of their studies.
Protacio T. Tacandong, Reyes Tacandong and Co. Foundation Inc. chief executive officer, said Friday that the only course will assist Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) senior high school students of the school as part of complying with their requirements.
“We will be offering this e-learning program so that the students can access (it) anytime, anywhere,” said TAcandong during the signing of the agreement last week.
Developed by Dr. Celito C. Macachor, training director of the company, the online tool is available for free to public schools that the company believes deserving to be granted.
The content of the online course are based on the guidelines set by the Department of Education for the K to 12 program as well as the latest accountancy curriculum by the Commission on Higher Education.
Other schools that have been allowed to use the tool are the University of Makati and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.
Tacandong said the company decided to partner with DCNHS as it is the biggest high school in the region that offers the subject. “We are selecting the public schools because I think this is what is needed.
Our impression is that maybe the schools are not prepared for this (K to 12 program) because this was implemented very soon. So, we felt there is really a need for somebody, especially accounting firms like us, to really help these schools,” he added.
Tacandong added that the course provides a wide array of basic accountancy lessons fit for senior high school students. “This will be the basic, once you will go to accounting in college, you will have a very good foundation,” he said.
Aside from the free access to online courses, the company also provides scholarships to deserving students chosen by the institution.
“The foundation basically (provide) scholarship to deserving students in accounting to become CPA (certified public accountant) and at the same time, we also assist the schools in giving training that we hope to give to deserving schools wherein we can assist the (SHS) students who will be preparing to be future CPAs,” Tacandong said.
The scholars are expected to be part of the company once they finish their accounting degree, but Tacandong clarified that it will not be compulsory and their scholars have the liberty to choose where they will be after finishing their students.
After the signing of the agreement, the teachers of the school who will teach the subject will undergo training for the features of the tool.
