  • P14-M shabu found in discarded box at Calinan checkpoint

AUTHORITIES found P14 million worth of illegal drugs inside a box discarded at a Task Force Davao checkpoint in Barangay Lacson, Calinan District, at around 6:31 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29.

Accordingly, an unidentified male passenger on board a Rural Tour bus (plate number ABG 2892) aroused suspicion during a routine inspection.

The individual abruptly returned to his seat, tore open a shoebox he was carrying, and threw away a smaller box behind the bus before fleeing the scene.

The incident caused panic among passengers and nearby residents, who thought it contained a bomb.

The Regional Canine and Explosive Ordnance Unit and Task Force Davao Explosive Ordnance Division secured the scene and tore open the box, which contained suspected shabu.

Following standard procedures outlined in Section 21 of RA 9165, the recovered suspected shabu was tagged, marked, and inventoried at the scene in the presence of witnesses.

The initial estimated street value of the seized drugs was P14,400,000.

Colonel Darren Comia, Task Force Davao commander, commended the dedication of Task Force Davao and Davao City Police Office personnel at the checkpoint.

“The interception of illicit substances at our city’s border control points highlights the effectiveness of our stringent checkpoint operations in preventing the entry of illegal items, he said.

This underscores our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of every Davaoeño,” Comia emphasized.

The TF Davao personnel and the Calinan police are hunting down the drug courier.
