THE DAVAO City Cacao Council will host numerous competitions, activities, and events to celebrate World Chocolate Day on July 7.
Wit Holganza, council chairperson and event lead for World Chocolate Day, revealed they received significant support for this year’s competitions, during Wednesday’s Media Forum held at Habi at Kape in Ayala Malls Abreeza on June 19.
“So this year, pina-lago namin yung imprint ng youth by having competitions in two areas (So this year, we expanded the imprint of the youth by having competitions in two areas),” she said.
The cacao centerpiece competition will focus on sustainability practices among students by requiring them to create tabletop centerpieces using natural cacao elements and farm materials, she stated.
On the other hand, the Sikwate x Kape competition will involve homegrown coffee shop owners and baristas in a hot beverage blend using Davao’s finest tableyas and award-winning beans, she added.
Furthermore, Holganza said that the competitions will also feature cash prizes.
Additionally, she stated that the celebration will feature Davao hotel pastry chefs showcasing their unique chocolate desserts, and a Cacao Talks discussion on sustainable farming, quality preservation, and cacao crafting.
Holganza encouraged the public to participate in this year’s Word Chocolate Day celebration, featuring over 15 chocolatiers and Davao’s finest chocolate beans.
