Davao City, Bukidnon affected by easterlies: Pagasa Davao

THE PHILIPPINE Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Davao Station announced that easterlies continue to hound Visayas and Mindanao until Jan. 15 in the afternoon, while the northeast monsoon will continue to affect Luzon.

According to Pagasa-Davao, easterlies are winds coming from the east and passing through the Pacific Ocean that carry humid and warm weather.

“Davao City will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers, thunderstorms, and lightning due to the Trough or extension of the easterlies. Bukidnon Province will have cloudy to partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers, thunderstorms, and lightning caused by Easterlies,” Pagasa stated.

Pagasa stressed that residents, especially those in low-lying, flood-prone, and mountainous areas, are advised to monitor heavy rain showers with thunderstorms and lightning, which may cause flooding and landslides.

Pagasa however emphasized that “there are no active tropical cyclones within the Philippine Area of Responsibility.”

On a separate note, Mati City, Davao Oriental declared its suspension of classes in all public and private school levels on the morning of Jan. 15, as a precautionary measure in view of the easterlies and shear line.
