“IN the Philippines, the Women’s Month Celebration has since served as a venue to highlight women’s achievements and discuss continuing and emerging women’s empowerment and gender equality issues and concerns, challenges and commitments. The celebration focuses on concrete activities that are aligned with national and international instruments and treaties such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, the Beijing Platform for Action, the Philippine Plan for Gender Responsive Development (1995-2025), the Frameippine Commission on Women.
As we celebrate the International Women’s Month this March, the Waterfront Insular Hotel-Davao joined hands with the Bai Hinang in showcasing the enthusiastically painted artworks of 11 talented Davaoena artists. The third art exhibition to be held at the Waterfront Insular Hotel from March 15-April 10, Bai Hinang Women Artists launched this year’s “Bai Chromatica: Reflective Radiance” exhibition at the hotel’s lobby for everybody to see; but best of all, with the goal of inspiring other women to pursue their individual passions despite or in spite of the challenges they face in life.
“Bai Chromatica: Reflective Radiance is an amalgamation of female talents. The word ‘Bai’ means woman while ‘Chroma’ refers to color….From the title itself, the exhibit features 11 artists with different painting styles. Their works are reflections of their inner radiance as artists and as women…The group has been actively advocating issues about women. But truly, each of the members’ artworks is a subtle yet potent effort to advocate women artists’ rights. The group’s strong presence in local art shows is a constant. This has resulted in positioning women artists of Davao in equal footing with male artists in the male dominated art scene of the city,” conveyed the ever articulate, bright, talented, and U.P. and Boston University educated Amanda Echevarria.
Indeed, the art exhibition gives viewers a wide perspective of the various dynamic visual art styles of Davao’s female artists: Dadai Joaquin on Classical Impressionism, Trixie Borbon on Modern Art, Tanya Gaisano-Lee on Contemporary Art, Amor delos Santos on Contemporary Mixed Media Art, Jing Rabat on Impressionism, Aimee M. Suarez on Expressionism, Kristin Gaid on Modern Impressionism, Amanda Echevarria on Figurative Abstractions & Surrealism, Elenita Dumlao on Abstract Art, Jane Ramos on Realism, and Nina Custodio on Modern Impressionism.
Art, indeed, is a struggle; and a difficult career path to take. Despite so many struggling creative artists in the City trying to make it, I admire these women artists for their dedication to move forward despite the obstacles they face. Remember that today’s most celebrated artist, Vincent Van Gogh, only sold a single painting in his lifetime.
During the launch last March 15, 2022, Waterfront Insular Hotel’s friendly and ever smiling GM Jennifer Romero warmly welcomed guests to the event; while the ever dependable Marketing Communications Officer Paolo M. Rosello emceed the event. Oh yes, from the feast of colors the guests were then led to a feast of flavorful delights by Sous Chef Gilbert B. Banday and his team at the spruced up Café Uno. Featured on the buffet table, which was so attractively decorated with an abundance of beautiful flowers, were the hotel’s new offerings namely Davao Premium Cheesecake, Mango Cream Cake, Davao Premium Chocolate Cake and Café Uno’s new picnic food recommendations.
