The City Environment and Natural Resources Office ordered all unused garbage trucks to park at the sanitary landfill instead of its motorpool in Barangay Ma-a following complaints from residents.
The complaint was posted at the Davao City Reports, an online platform by the city government for the public to air their grievances.
The letter, purportedly from residents of Barangay Ma-a, reads:
“Hello po! May request po sana ako, kami regarding po sa amoy dito sa CENRO-Motorpool sa Maa. Dili na jud maayo ni kung pirmi in ani kabaho dinhi sa amo community. Sana tagaan pod pag tagad amo hangyo (We have a request regarding the odor coming from the Cenro motorpool in Ma-a. The foul odor in our community is no longer good for our health. Hopefully, you can give attention to our request).”
The letter also claimed that they already filed the necessary complaint with Cenro as early as five years ago. But the agency failed to act on the matter.
Last December 2018, the residents launched a signature campaign and presented it to the Barangay Ma-a leadership to facilitate their request but still, no action has been done on their demands.
The letter sender said that unwashed trucks or garbage trucks still carrying trash should be stationed at the sanitary landfill in Barangay New Carmen, Tugbok District.
The Cenro, in response to the complaint, conducted a meeting to resolve the matter.
“All trucks (compactors and dumptrucks) subject for repair and with garbage inside will be transported to the Davao City Sanitary Landfill to eliminate emission of odor,” the Cenro resolution said.
Also, it committed that all Compactor trucks upon arriving from the Davao City Sanitary Landfill will undergo complete washing and thereafter will be sprayed with odor eliminator.
Additionally, all used tires that are being filed up at the CENRO garage area will be turned over to General Services Office to prevent dengue carrying mosquitoes from staying in the area.
