DAVAO CITY – District 3 is at the forefront of significant socio-economic growth with its
blend of urban and rural developments. In a strategic move to bolster community welfare
and security, the local government has prioritized the implementation of crucial
infrastructure projects in Barangays Gumalang and Tamugan.
In Barangay Gumalang, the community recently celebrated the inauguration of a new
Community Police Assistance Center by the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Police Station
11. The initiative enhances ongoing security and peacekeeping efforts, promoting peace and
order in the area.
“This turn-over ceremony is a testament of what we can achieve when we work hand in hand
towards a common goal. This project underscores the cohesive efforts among stakeholders
involved. Our unified actions can bring essential services closer to the communities,
enhancing safety for all the residents” said PMAJ Leo Arvin Alce, Police Station 10
Commander representing DCPO Acting City Director Pcol. Hansel Marantan.
Additionally, a communal faucet was installed to provide water access to 684 households in
Puroks 4A, 5, 6A, and 9, addressing the community’s water needs. To accommodate the
growing population around the Apo Agua water treatment plant in Purok 6A, a pedestrian
walkway was constructed, ensuring safe access for residents and workers in the area.
Punong Barangay Jingle Porgarillas noted that, aside from the safety initiatives, she is
immensely grateful for the communal faucet project, which has been a significant help for
Gumalang, especially during emergencies and times of mourning when finding water is a
struggle. This development, she said, has alleviated the challenges she faced in sourcing
water during critical times and will greatly benefit the residents of Gumalang.
In Barangay Tamugan, Apo Agua, through its Project Blue initiative, and in partnership with
the Aboitiz Foundation, donated 134 rolls of pipes and appurtenances to support the
enhancement of the Barangay Water Supply Systems. This covers the sitios in Sualon, Sto.
Nino, San Roque, and Tamugan Proper (Centro) under the Davao City Water District’s
(DCWD) TABAWI-TAMTAM Rural Water Systems Development Program.
These key infrastructure projects involve a collaborative and community-driven approach to
promoting peace, health, and overall development in District 3.
Davao City District 3 Councilors Alberto Ungab, Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz, Congressman Isidro
Ungab and key representatives from DCPO, Barangays Gumalang and Tamugan, DCWD, and
Apo Agua gathered for the turnover of the police outpost, inauguration of the communal
faucet, and donation of water supply materials.
“Community development projects are helping a lot especially here in our communities,”
District 3 Councilor Alberto Ungab said. “These facilities must be protected because this is
really the target of internal and external forces. If you know how to make an economy run,
make sure that the private sector is working. In the 3rd district, the interplay between the
government and the private sector is very good”
Last month, a series of medical missions were conducted in the Davao City Bulk Water
Supply Project host communities of Brgys. Gumalang, Tamugan, Wines, Tawantawan, and
Tambobong, bringing much-needed health services to 1,340 residents. These initiatives were
made possible through the joint efforts with the City Health Office (CHO), Baguio District
Health Office, Marilog Health Office, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP)
Region XI, the Armed Forces of the Philippines 27th Infantry Battalion-Alpha and Bravo
Company, Davao City Police Office’s Revitalized Pulis sa Barangay (DCPPO-RPSB) Cluster 6,
Regional Mobile Force Batallon XI – RPSB Marilog Cluster 3, the City Council Committee on
Health, District 3 Councilors, and the Vice Mayor’s Office.
These collaborative efforts among the local authorities, private sector partners, and the
community underscore a shared commitment to sustainable development and improved
quality of life.
