THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) set up a community pantry dubbed as “Pantry ng Pulis” along San Pedro Street on Saturday, April 24.
“This activity aims to intensify the spirit of giving and sharing during this time of pandemic,” Col. Kirby John Kraft, the city police director, said in phone interview, said
Kraft, said more or less 150 individuals benefited from the program.
“We will all recover in dignity by helping the most vulnerable families to recover from this global pandemic,” he said. “We will not let them be left behind,” he added.
Kraft said all police stations have mounted the Pantry ng Pulis under their areas of responsibility. These are usually set up in front of their headquarters or at the barangay covered courts.
“The lines were long because a lot of people arrived to get enough food to cover their needs,” he said.
Kraft added that the health protocols were strictly observed during the distribution of food.
“Nakikiusap po kami sa gusto mag mount ng Community Pantry na mag inform din sa inyong police station at barangay upang mabigyan kayo o ma assist natin para ma maintain pa rin ang social distancing (we are appealing to those who will mount a community pantry to inform the police station and the barangay to assist you in maintaining social distancing),” he further said.
Even before the Community Pantry became popular, Kraft said the Davao City Police Office has always provided small donations to alleviate the daily burden, especially the poor.
