Optum Philippines, a global capability center (GCC) of UnitedHealth Group, celebrates a milestone anniversary—one year since the launch of its Davao hub. This marks a significant step in its mission to deliver innovative, data-driven healthcare solutions while strengthening its commitment to developing the next generation of industry leaders.
Since its entry into the Philippine market in 2011, Optum has grown into one of the largest healthcare capability centers across its six locations in the country. The company focuses on transforming healthcare by leveraging clinical expertise, technology, and analytics to improve patient outcomes, reduce costs, and enhance access, playing a crucial behind-the-scenes role in global healthcare operations.
Optum Philippines has always been dedicated to revolutionizing healthcare through innovative solutions, leveraging clinical expertise, technology, and data analytics to improve patient experiences, reduce costs, and enhance health outcomes. Although it operates differently from traditional healthcare providers, Optum’s global capability center (GCC) model is designed to drive quality and efficiency.

Strategic expansion in the heart of Davao
Following the easing of community lockdowns in 2021, Optum identified Davao as a strategic location to expand operations. By year-end, around 500 remote employees were already delivering strong and promising results, prompting the establishment of a permanent office.
Today, Optum Davao is the only GCC in the city, offering careers in contact center operations, clinical services, and payment integrity. Through partnerships with local universities and training centers, the company continues to tap into Davao’s skilled workforce, contributing to the local economy and healthcare ecosystem.
Optum has embraced Davao’s local culture, integrating regional language and traditions into its workplace. It actively supports employee-led initiatives and participates in local festivals, fostering a sense of community and Davaoeño pride among its staff.
Optum Davao’s key milestones and achievements
The Davao hub has achieved notable success in its first year. A recent Employee Experience Survey showed a 94% satisfaction rate, reflecting a supportive work culture and focus on career growth. Local employee Elaine Artuz was recognized as one of Optum’s “Super Heroes,” a recognition awarded to Optum employees across the country, exemplifying the company’s values in action.

Elevating the healthcare industry for the better
As the only healthcare GCC in the region, Optum offers career opportunities previously unavailable in Davao. The company launched Optum Health Education Global in the Philippines last year, providing free courses to upskill employees and healthcare workers, future-proofing the workforce, and positioning the city as a center of innovation.
What’s in store for Optum Davao and Optum Philippines
Optum plans to further expand its Davao operations with new programs focused on leadership, innovation, and continuous learning. As Optum continues to strengthen relationships with industry stakeholders, local government, and academia, the company aims to empower more Davaoeños to take on leadership roles and help transform the healthcare landscape.
As it celebrates this anniversary, Optum reaffirms its commitment to building a healthier world, powered by local talent and global impact.
