ONE-HUNDRED five employers will join the Department of Labor and Employment’s job fair on  Labor Day, May 1, with over 7,500 spots offered to seekers.

Atty. Randolf C. Pensoy, regional director of DOLE XI, said they expect a total of 7,524 job vacancies (6,262 local, 1,262 overseas) and 105 participating employees (97 local, 8 overseas) for the three job fair sites in Davao City, Tagum City, and Digos City.

He said they established the job fairs in the three major cities as most workers prefer to work in highly urbanized places rather than in the provinces.

Ang uban man gud nato mga probinsya dili sila kahatag og job fair or job vacancies kay ang kasagaran diri man manganhi sa atoang mga major cities,” he said.

Among the three job fair sites, SM City in Davao has the most vacancies offered (2,862 local, 968 overseas) and participating employers (44 local, five overseas).

Ang atoang pud arrangement sa atoang job fair i-mold nato kay para ang atoang pud mga applicante convenient pud siya nga mu apply og trabaho. Mo apply og trabaho paghuman pwede ra siya mag window shopping or mag malling (We made it convenient for the applicant to apply for work. For example, they can go window shopping or malling after applying for work),” he said.

According to their survey data, Davao Region’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.3 percent in January 2024 compared to 4.5 percent last January 2023. In January 2024, the number of unemployed persons was estimated to be 77,000. This also indicates a decrease of 30,000 from the 107,000 that was reported in January 2023.

The region posted a 96.7% employment rate in January 2024 compared to 95.5 percent in January 2023.

For the top 10 local job vacancies, customer service representatives rank the highest with 1,518 vacancies. The top five overseas job vacancies are cleaners, factory workers, nurses, sales, and shelving worker/merchandiser, mostly for Europe, particularly in the UK.
