Widowed fire victim needs financial help

A sister of a fire victim whose wife died earlier of cervical cancer has asked for financial help to rebuild a house for their family.

Ruchel Rojas took to Facebook on Wednesday, Sept. 18, to help raise funds for her brother, Crisanto Rojas, whose house was razed by fire Wednesday morning.

According to Ruchel, the house was also the venue of the wake of Crisanto’s wife who passed away last Sept. 14 due to cervical cancer.

“(My sister-in-law) struggled for a year because of cancer. My brother did everything he can and asked help, including loans, from almost all government agencies to find finances to support my sister-in-law’s medication. Unfortunately, last Saturday, she wasn’t able to survive her cancer,” Ruchel said in a lengthy Facebook post.

According to Ruchel, at 7 o’clock in the morning, Crisanto’s house at YCF Village, Barangay San Antonio, Agdao, was among the three houses razed by fire.

“They were not able to save even a single item and clothing. Even the money intended for the burial of my sister-in-law is gone. My brother has nothing now and we don’t know where to get help from,” said Ruchel.

Ruchel, in a message sent to TIMES, said Crisanto is currently staying with his nephew. She added that he has three children but only one stays with him. She also mentioned that because of her social media post, help, mostly clothing, started coming in.

“On Wednesday, a team from the City Social Services and Development Office went here and they brought cooking items, blanket, and others. We also received clothes donated by concerned netizens,” Ruchel said in a message.

But she added that they are still need of financial assistance.

“We still need help financially so that my brother can rebuild his house because it was really razed down,” she said.

Ruchel mentioned that those who are willing to help may send it to the Rojas residence in YCF Village, Barangay San Antonio, Agdao addressed to her or to Crisanto.
