Wanderlust: Waterfront welcomes New Year with new chef

Waterfront Insular Hotel kicks off the New Year with a new member of their F&B team, Chef Anthony Joseph “Nino” Ante III, who was formally appointed as Property Executive Chef in late 2018.

During the hotel’s celebration of the Chinese New Year last February 5, Chef Nino was introduced by Waterfront hotel manager Bryan Yves Lasala to the local media at the hotel’s Cafe Uno.

A native of Cotabato City, Chef Nino earned a Diploma in Culinary Arts and Hotel Management from the International School for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management in Quezon City.

He has been employed at various 5 star hotels and resorts around the world, including Holland America Cruise Line in Tampa, Florida as Chef de Partie, Sofitel Shanghai as Sous Chef, Best Western Premier F1 Hotel in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig as Executive Chef, Hilton Garden Inn City Center as Head Chef, Renaissance Hotel Edmonton as Banquet Chef, Manitou Springs Resort and Spa as Executive Chef, JW Marriott Rosseau Muskok in Canada as Culinary Contractor, and most recently, Hilton Trade and Convention Center as Culinary Contractor.

As Property Executive Chef, Chef Nino is in charge of the hotel’s banquet events and all-day-dining restaurants.

To celebrate the Lunar Year, Chef Nino whipped up a delectable spread of Oriental cuisine featuring a sumptuous six-station for the Chinese New Year fete. At the special media gathering, the Lunar Year lunch buffet featured a12-course selection that included a special carving of Lechon Macau, Peking Duck, Pork Charsiu, Salt and Pepper Squid, Stir Fry Beef and Bok Choy in Oyster Sauce and Kung Pao Chicken.

For dessert, variety of dim sum and delicacies, such as Tang Yuan, assorted hopia, mooncakes and tikoy were also served.

The lively performances of the traditional lion dance completed Cafe Uno’s Chinese New Year celebration.

DTAA ALL SET FOR TRAVEL SALE. Davao Travel Agents Association president Joy Loyola is optomistic with the upcoming 10th Davao Mega Travel Sale slated on February 15-17 at the Abreeza Mall activity center.

“A total of 33 participants are joining this year, composed of hotels, resorts, airlines, travel agents, cruise lines, insurance companies, among others,” said Loyola during the Habi at Kape media forum last February 6 at Abreeza Mall.

The association hopes to surpass their PhP10 million sales last year with this year’s event as more Dabawneyos are interested to travel to new destinations such as Iceland, Turkey and countries in the Balkan peninsula.
