VICE PRESIDENT Sara Duterte highlighted the importance of forgiveness as she called on Filipinos to be “forgiving, giving, and loving” this Christmas season.
In a speech, Duterte said that as vice president, she needs to highlight the importance of forgiveness in embodying the spirit of Christmas
However, the Vice President also revealed that she will not forgive.
“Lagi ko pong sinasabi na depende po ‘yan sa tao pero dahil ako as vice president, kailangan kong sabihin sa inyo na ‘yan po ang mensahe at diwa ng Pasko. Pero po ako hindi po talaga ako magpapatawad (I’ve always said it depends on the individual. But as the vice president, I need to remind everyone about the message and essense of Christmas. But for me, I am not the forgiving type),” Duterte said in a speech at a gift-giving activity of the Office of the Vice President in Lagawe, Ifugao on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
The vice president did not specifically point out who she was referring to, but she advised voters to be vigilant and thoroughly examine who they will vote for in the upcoming elections next year.
On the other hand, Duterte has still not responded to the issue regarding the two impeachment cases filed against her in Congress.
On Wednesday, Dec.4, Progressive group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) led the filing of a second impeachment case against the vice president over the alleged misuse of her confidential funds.
According to ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro, 74 leaders from various progressive groups and concerned citizens have already signed the impeachment complaint, which is related to allegations of corruption and misuse of confidential funds by VP Sara.
Of the 74 complainants, one-third, according to Castro, are from the youth sector.
In addition to the youth, the other signatories also come from public school teachers, government employees, human rights victims, and former members of Congress.
On the other hand, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, the president pro tempore, remarked that it would be difficult for the impeachment complaint to reach the Senate if it is approved in the House, due to the priority plenary sessions in the Senate.
