Two locally stranded individuals (LSIs) who with a travel history to Cebu were confirmed positive for the COVID-19 bringing the total number of patients in Davao de Oro to 19.
With only 12 hours since the Department of Health (DOH)-Davao reported the four new cases in Davao region on June 25–two of whom are returning male Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who are residents of Laak and Mokayo in the province and two others from Davao del Norte–the provincial government of Davao de Oro again reported that two male LSIs from Maragusan and Mawab have been added to the list.
On Friday morning, the provincial government detailed that the individual from the municipality of Maragusan is the 18th positive case of the province. He is classified as asymptomatic since he showed no signs of symptoms associated with COVID-19, and is currently isolated at the Davao de Oro Provincial Hospital (DDOPH)-Maragusan.
Meanwhile, Maragusan Mayor Maricel Colina-Vendiola said the 42-year-old patient, who is a construction worker and a resident of Barangay Coronobe, is the first recorded confirmed positive case in town.
The patient left Cebu on June 14 boarding MV Air Asia Vessel going to Cagayan. Onboard the van provided by the city government of Davao, the patient traveled from Cagayan to Davao Ecoland Terminal in Davao City. He then took a public utility bus (Davao Metro Shuttle) bound to Maragusan with a stopover in Tagum City and Nabunturan.
Colina-Vendiola said the patient arrived in the Maragusan Public Terminal on June 17.
“Gikan sa Maragusan Public Terminal nisakay siya og bao-bao paingon sa barangay isolation unit sa Barangay Coronobe (From Marugusan Public Terminal, he boarded a bao-bao (a local tricycle) to the barangay isolation unit in Barangay Coronobe),” she said.
On June 25, the patient underwent a swab test in DDOPH and the results were released that same afternoon.
The mayor has reminded the public to stay home if they do not have any essential transactions for travel, and to comply with the existing required health protocols against COVID-19.
“Akoang ipasiguro kaninyo nga ato ng gihimo ang contact tracing aron masayran ang tanang nakahalobilo sa atong Patient 1 ug aron mahimoan ug tamang aksyon ang matag sistwasyon subay sa DOH protocols (I assure you that contact tracing is being done to identify those who have come into contact with our Patient 1 and for us to perform appropriate actions in accordance with the DOH protocols),” Mayor Colina-Vendiola said.
Meanwhile, the individual from the municipality of Mawab is the 19th case of the province. He arrived in town last June 16 and was brought to a dedicated barangay isolation unit. He was swabbed on June 25 at the Provincial Health Office. The patient is also asymptomatic.
Provincial Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy on Thursday evening noted that most of the remaining active cases in province are either LSIs or OFWs who had travel histories in Manila and Cebu, two of the high-risk areas for their notable number of COVID-19 cases.
With the two additional cases in the province, Davao de Oro now has 16 active COVID-19 positives.
