TUPAD releases P6.4-M in Samal

The Island Garden City of Samal Satellite Office of the Department of Labor and Employment XI released P6.4 million for the first two batches of beneficiaries under Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers #Barangay Ko Bahay Ko (TUPAD #BKBK) Program.

The agency announced that as of April 13, 1,627 workers from the informal sector were given wages after working for 10 days under the ]program.

Among the 1,627 workers, 498 were from Batch 1 who were given P1.9 million while 1,129 were from Batch 2 with a total of P4.4 million worth of wages.

DOLE XI Regional Director Raymundo G. Agravante and DOLE XI TSSD OIC-Chief Paul V. Cruz appeared during the payout along with DOLE IGACOS Satellite Office Head Leo Ariel A. Pepino, and Samal PESO Manager Florencio Thaddeus T. Valera.

The TUPAD #BKBK is a program for the underemployed, self-employed, and displaced marginalized workers who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beneficiaries under the program will be tasked to disinfect the houses and immediate vicinity of their houses for 10 days.

They are paid based on highest minimum wage in the region, they will also be enrolled in group micro-insurance, and they undergo basic orientation on safety and health through brochures.

At present, provincial LGUs in Davao Region are still implementing the TUPAD #BKBK Program in their respective provinces, according to DOLE XI Labor Communications Officer Eduardo Monreal.
