Tour guide urges Davaoeños to support local tourism spots

A REGIONAL tour guide lamented how challenging it is to sell local destinations to Davaoeños.

“Majority of our tourist spot supporters were foreigners, the challenge here is katong mga naa diria mismo nagpuyo sa Davao, wala sila kabalo kung unsa ang anaa sa mga tourist attraction site here,” Brian Mike Luceno, a tour guide from non-profit group Guide Davao, said.

He mentioned that one of the reasons why locals do not travel often is because of the high cost of tour packages and other travel-related services.

Luceno said they have been conducting conferences, education tours, and promotion campaigns to further amplify the region’s attraction sites.

“Isa sa mga banner association karon sa Guide Davao, as a regional tour guide, isa sa mga proyekto namo is the heritage walking tour or tourism para sa atoang mga estudyante. At least, mahatag ang mga information dili lamang sa mga tourists diri sa Davao, but especially sa mga interesado nga mga estudyante,” he added.

Guide Davao also supports the Department of Tourism’s new branding “Diversity is Our Beauty,” and continues to promote the 11 ethnolinguistic tribes aside from the four icons of Davao, particularly the Mt. Apo, Durian, the Philippine eagle, and Waling-waling.
