Once a proposed bill introduced in US Senate called the “Resolving Extended Limbo for Immigrant Employees and Families Act,” or RELIEF Act (SB 2603) will be approved and signed by the President, it may reduce the processing of family and employment petitions to five years instead of the present 30 years.
As a holder of a US Permanent Resident Card otherwise known as Green Card, I can request anytime for visas for my unmarried children to live in the US. But I didn’t avail of the opportunity for my youngest son Jin Lorenz to join me and his sister in the US. I want him to finish his college here before thinking of residing abroad.
If the RELIEF Act becomes a law it would also classify spouses and minor children of green card holders as “immediate relatives” and could immediately eligible for green cards, similar to the spouses and minor children of US citizens within five years.
And while we’re still waiting for the passing of the RELIEF Act, we suggest the US citizens to file a petition now for family members, single or married siblings, even if at present the waiting time is still covered by the existing law because once the bill is passed, your petition will not wait for that long to be approved.

Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio calls on the public to visit their dead loved ones in the cemeteries as early as before Nov. 1 and 2 to prevent traffic congestion during this week-ends’ commemoration of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
The Mayor said that since its semestral break it is better for the public to go earlier to the cemeteries days before the weekend. “I will visit the tombs of my departed relatives either today (Monday) or Tuesday, days prior to the holidays,” she continued.
Since the death of my wife Virgie five years ago and my younger brother year’s later, I no longer wait for Nov. 1 and 2 to visit their separate plots at the Davao Memorial Park in Matina and in Manila Memorial Park in Magtuod. I set Oct. 30 as my visiting date to avoid what the Mayor’s fear of traffic congestion on the actual days of commemoration.
For my departed parents and all siblings (I am the only one left in the family, remember?) who were all buried in separate cemeteries in Metro Manila and to other relatives and friends, we also remember them here with flowers and prayers that they may all rest in peace.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, in coordination with the Land Transportation Office, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and other concerned agencies, launched Project Undaspot, under Oplan Harabas at the Francisco Bangoy International Airport in Buhangin district and at the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal in Ecoland the other day.
Six public transport drivers were tested for drug use.
Cheers to our concerned agencies that participated in the operation that resulted to the apprehension of six drug users.
Maybe if our law enforcers will do it 24/7 and not just at random or during Undas or when they feel doing it, the six people apprehended may be more than 100 times in number.
And to think that they are only doing this once in a blue moon, so they say, just think of the number of innocent daily commuters being exposed to danger not knowing that the vehicle they’re riding on is being driven by one who is high on drugs!

The latest Tuesday’s tremor that struck parts of Mindanao at 9:57 AM while I was preparing our lunch was upgraded to a magnitude of 6.6, according to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
The epicenter was located off Tulunan town in Cotabato province where an earthquake earlier this month killed at least 5 people.
As of this writing, Philvoc is still studying if this latest quake was due to movement of the same fault that caused the Oct. 16 6.3 quake.
