CHICAGO, Illinois – Six of my senatorial candidates in the mid-term elections were among those in the winning column as of May 18 official canvassing. Meaning, if the trend will continue, I have a fair chance of not at all lose the May 13 elections.

But since the remaining 12 incumbent senators are yet to serve their terms until June 2022 and majority of them are known to be supportive the Duterte administration agenda, then the President will continue to have a huge clout in the Senate.

The leading candidates as of May 18, 7:10 p.m. were Cynthia Villar, Grace Poe, Christopher “Bong” Go, Pia Cayetano, Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Ed Angara, Imee Marcos, Lito Lapid, Francis Tolentino, Koko Pimentel, JV Ejercito, and Nancy Binay.

I will not name my six candidates in the magic 12 to play safe, or not to expose myself to those I didn’t vote but have chances of winning.

To President Duterte and Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, congratulations for a job well done! The Dutertes are still the name to reckon with in future elections as the people will continue to believe in their style of governance. Inday Sara for President!

To the losers, as usual, better luck next time!

I have to wait for the final results in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd districts local elections as I reported earlier, we received news a week late, unless my ever-loyal Facebook friend Danilo Parame reports to me on time the latest news from that other side of the globe.

But for sure, my family friend and mentor in my college days at the RMC Pilar Caneda Braga, Kumadre Mabel Acosta, Kumpadre Bonifacio Militar, Kumpadre Nilo Abellera Sr. all of the First District;  Danilo Dayanghirang and Diosdado Mahipus Jr. of the Second District; and Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz and Conde Baluran of the Third District won council seats. Each deserves it. Congratulations!

To the rest of my friends who ran in these elections but I forgot to mention their names, please keep me informd as I said we’re a bit late here in receiving news from your side. Hirap parin kasi ako mag search sa Internet. Bobo talaga. Hehe!

This is my 30th day here since I arrived on April 20. Temperature is at 71F (about 24C, Phil. reading) malamig as if you’re in Tagaytay. I am beginning to adjust to everything new to me, contrary to what some friends out there who warned me beforehand that I will not last a day that I would think of going back home because of the temperature and feelings of homesickness and culture shock.

I proved them wrong because they came here as tourists, or job seekers. For me, my real intention is to have my US citizenship after I renewed my Philippine passport, got my Social Security as identification card, have my Green Card as permanent resident, all in less than four weeks upon arrival here.

Maybe, a record-breaking accomplishment to someone like me who came from nothing but challenged all the hardships in life and now beginning to see that light of success because I am never ashamed of letting the world know who really I am. Ang iba kasi sa atin, hindi na marunong tumingin sa pinanggalingan.

I am watching my weight otherwise I will become overweight for not doing hard work as I am always inside the house after a 30-minute daily morning walk  – eating, watching television shows, writing columns, and listening to ‘Hi, Google’ who I can command to remind me of my daily schedules and plays standard songs for me. I only go out of the house on Tala’s Volvo car to buy food.

The rest of my companions, since Nathan and Tala are both working, are robots doing the housekeeping. No broom or walis tingting, no dustpan except for disposable feather duster. Dito tinuruan akong maging tamad.

A priest, a minister, and a rabbi want to see who’s best at his job. So each one goes into the woods, finds a bear, and attempts to convert it.

Later, they all get together. The priest begins: “When I found the bear, I read to him from the catechism and sprinkled him with holy water. Next week is his first Communion.”

“I found a bear from the stream,” says the minister, “and preached God’s holy Words. The bear was so mesmerized that he let me baptize him.”

They both look down at the rabbi, who is lying on a gurney in a body cast. “Looking back,” he says, “maybe I shouldn’t have started with the circumcision.”
