- VP Sara says father, brothers will run for senator in 2025
VICE PRESIDENT Sara Duterte announced that her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, and brothers will test their political mettle against the administration’s bets to win Senate seats in the mid-term elections.
“Ang ingon sa akong mama na mudagan ug senador akong manghod si Baste [Mayor Sebastian Duterte] ug mudagan sa 2028 ug president (My mother said that my younger brother Baste will run as president in 2028),” the recently resigned education secretary told reporters in an ambush interview at the sidelines of a Pride Month event in Cagayan de Oro city on Tuesday, June 25.
“Ang ingon sakong mama mubalik ko sa Davao mag mayor ko (My mother also said I will return as mayor of Davao),” Duterte said.
When pressed if she would step down as vice president after her resignation as the Department of Education secretary, she responded, “Walang ganon na usapan (There are no talks about that).”
On June 19, Sara Duterte resigned as DepEd Secretary and National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) co-vice chairperson effective July 19, 2024.
So in the 2025 elections, the Vice President further said that three Dutertes will run for Senator.
“Lahat sila raring magtakbo si former President Rodrigo Duterte mag senador, yung kapatid ko Congressman Paolo Duterte mag senador, and Baste Duterte mag senator,” she further said.
The former president and Mayor Sebastian Duterte have been going around the country and abroad to criticize the actions of the Marcos administration, which further fueled the rift between the two prominent political families.
