Checkpoints intercept P30,000 illegal lumbers, unlicensed gun

A 39-YEAR-OLD man yielded an unlicensed gun while P30,000 worth of illegal lumbers were seized at the joint police and Task Force Davao checkpoints in Toril and Lacson, Calinan on Friday, March 10.

The Joint AFP-PNP Border Control Point in Barangay Eden, in close coordination with the Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro on Friday, flagged down a truck carrying 15 pieces of gmelina.

The authorities accosted an Isuzu Elf bearing plate number MCV 6955 driven by Jerry P. Villacite, 30, married, and a resident of Purok 3, New Visayas, Trento, Agusan Del Sur. He was traveling toward Davao City around 1:34 p.m. and passed by the mandatory checkpoint inspection at Sitio Augis, Barangay Eden.

Colonel Darren E. Comia, Task Force Davao commander, vowed to intensify the inspection of all trucks entering Davao City that might carry illegal forest products.

The commander lauded the troops on this accomplishment.

He stressed the need to coordinate with local and national agencies to further strengthen the borders and ensure Davao City’s safety and security.

The confiscated contraband was turned over to the Cenro.

Meanwhile, Jamel L. Aloyodan, 39, married, and a resident of Lumbatan, Lanao Del Sur, was on board a black Fortuner bearing plate number NFE 2915 and traveling toward the city when flagged down at the Lacson checkpoint around 8:40 p.m.

Seized from his possession included a Caliber .45 pistol bearing SN:45072SP with a magazine loaded with four live ammunition. The suspect and the items were turned over to Calinan Police Station.
