THE DAVAO City Health Office confirmed one death previously suspected with Monkeypox (Mpox) on Tuesday but assured the patient is not positive for the virus.
Dr. Sofia Corazon D. Zafra, CHO City Emerging & Re-emerging Infectious Disease Medical coordinator, reported this to the 20th city council’s June 3 regular session.
Unlike the one fatality, which was reported in April, who was positive for Mpox but died due to being immunocompromised, Zafra said the new patient tested negative based on the laboratory result.
In the surveillance data from Jan. 1 to June 2, the total reported cases were 13 that met the case definition of Mpox. Of these numbers, 10 (77%) were males and three (23%) were females.
The CHO confirmed that these 13 cases fell under the Mpox definition due to visible skin lesions.
“There are requirements for us to suspect it and for it to be a probable Mpox. So, based on that, we will report it as suspected Mpox, hindi pa yan siya sure,” Zafra stressed.
The confirmed cases also increased to seven cases, with a fatality rate of 14%.
