Suspect in illegal drugs killed in encounter: cops

LAW ENFORCERS killed a man wanted for allegedly being among the notorious peddlers of illegal drugs during an armed encounter Tuesday.

Major Sean C Logronio, Talomo police station commander, identified the man as Mark Jill Rosquitos Impuesto, 27, tricycle driver, of Talomo Proper.

The police report said members of the police station, headed by Lt. Cesar Aaron Robles Jr., was conducting an operation in Purok 3, Salakot Talomo Beach, Brgy. Talomo when the suspect sensed that a member of police was trying to buy illegal drugs from him.

The man then allegedly drew his .38 caliber revolver and shot his buyer, but failed to him. The police officer, who was not identified in the report, fired back, hitting the suspect on the body. The police team immediately brought him to the Adventist Hospital in Bangkal for immediate medical attention, but they were advised to transfer to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC). He died upon arriving at the government hospital, the report added.

Seized from him were four sachets of suspected shabu with estimated street value of P 4,000, illegal drugs paraphernalia and other non-drug items.

The report added that based on investigation, the man was found to be involved in other crimes including robbery incidents as well as riots in the area.

In commending the police team for its work, Logronio said that the police station will intensify its campaign against lawlessness even as he said that his station is not into killing suspect.

“We have a strong faith in God and we value life, that is why we protect lives. Lives of those people living in peace and harmony. But this I have to tell you, I do not want to risk the lives of my hardworking policemen in exchange of the lives of criminals who want to live in chaos,” he said.
