155 cops pass drug test

One hundred and fifty-five personnel of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) passed the random drug test conducted inside the conference room of the headquarters Wednesday morning.

City police director Col. Alexander Tagum led the drug testing Wednesday by the PNP Crime Laboratory 11.

“We cannot allow drug users among our ranks,” Tagum said, adding that “We will continuously weed out those unfit for the service.”

Also, he said they did not receive any report from the police hotline accusing any cop of possible involvement in illegal drugs.

Speaking in yesterday’s AFP-PNP press briefing held at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Capt. Maria Theresita Gaspan, the city police spokesperson, said the initial drug test only involved members of the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) and office-based personnel.

Gaspan said the surprise test was also a way to assure the public of the integrity of the DEU personnel.

“This is a mandatory test wherein also the other units will be the subject of an unannounced test to their personnel,” she further said.

Meanwhile, as of this writing, Tagum said there’s no report from the Regional Crime Laboratory on the results. The Davao City Police Office is composed of almost 2,000 PNP personnel with 12 police stations.
