St. Elizabeth Hospital makes history with Region 12’s first-ever TEVAR procedure

ST. ELIZABETH Hospital has achieved a historic medical milestone by successfully performing the first-ever Thoracic Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (TEVAR) in Region 12. The procedure was conducted on a 68-year-old patient diagnosed with a thoracic aortic aneurysm—a potentially life-threatening condition.

TEVAR is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a stent graft to reinforce the weakened portion of the aorta in the chest, significantly reducing the risk of rupture and enabling faster patient recovery compared to traditional open surgery.

This complex procedure was led by a dedicated team of specialists, including interventional cardiologists Dr. Rachel Ann Denila and Dr. Anna Lorraine Samonte-Lucero, cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Alduz Cabasa from the Philippine General Hospital, and cardiothoracic anesthesiologist Dr. Ralph Anislag, with the support of the hospital’s skilled CathLab nurses and staff. Their collaborative expertise and commitment to excellence made this life-saving achievement possible and set a new benchmark for advanced cardiovascular care in the region.

St. Elizabeth Hospital is a proud member of Metro Pacific Health, the largest private hospital network in the Philippines. As part of this growing network, the hospital is empowered to bring world-class, patient-centered care closer to communities in Mindanao. This milestone reflects its continuing mission to make advanced medical interventions accessible to more Filipinos—saving lives, one heart at a time.
