ROUGH CUTS | Pulong’s accuser turns the accused

SO, SENATOR Robin Padilla is planning to push for a Sara Duterte-Imee Marcos tandem for president and vice president in the 2028 national elections?

And Sara’s reaction was kind of hinting that she is not ready to confirm whether she is amenable to the proposed team-up? But she was also quick in challenging Senator Imee to bring back to the Philippines her father, who is presently detained in the International Criminal Court (ICC) – run prison in The Hague, Netherlands.

What if Imee will be able to secure the release of former President Rodrigo Duterte through her own connections and personal cunning? Will VP Sara, who is a shoo-in for the Presidential slot of her Party, immediately agree to their tandem?

In due time, the Filipinos will know, and surely they will also discover, what is really behind Imee Marcos’ apparent navigation in two rivers at the same time.

Well, the guy could not have expected what happened to him.

We mean the man who accused re-electionist (now reelected Davao City first district congressman Pulong Duterte) of manhandling him after an altercation in a local bar.

That was shortly before the May 12 election when his accusation against the eldest Duterte son was carried in the local papers. The incident, though, happened early this year. According to newspaper reports, Congressman Pulong’s accuser went to Manila supposedly to hide from harm from the Congressman and his men’s possible revenge.

Then came this report that the same guy was arrested in Manila by elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), allegedly for human trafficking. The accuser who is this time the alleged crime perpetrator, was reportedly pimping for sex services of beautiful women to some male customers who were actually disguised members of the CIDG.

It may be recalled that the alleged incident in Davao City involving the first district representative was also reportedly due to an argument over the payment of women’s services.

So, despite his “flight” to the capital, the guy was still able to continue his trade unhampered despite his supposed protection provided by the police?

Now, whose case will be attended to first by the prosecution office or by the courts, will it be the charges against the Davaoeno lawmaker, or will it be the one against the earlier accuser?

This is worth watching by the Davaoeño public.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) was reported to have lowered its wheeling fee for electricity from the various generating plants to the different power distributors in the country. The decrease for the month of May was 0.27 percent. However, NGCP’s charges on other ancillary services for the same month spiked by 9.28 percent.

The wheeling or transmission of electricity and its other ancillary services still have a significant impact on the overall rate that will be billed by the power distributors to the consumers.

So, the 0.27 decrease in the wheeling fee is a mere “pakonswelo de bobo” to the power end users since the hike in ancillary charges is many times bigger than the reduction in the wheeling fee.

Again, this announcement of a supposed reduction in the cost of one insignificant component of the NGCP bill is only an attempt to assuage the hurt of the ordinary electricity consumers. In other words, the so-called diminution of the wheeling fee of the NGCP is just one contribution to adding to the number of sufferers in whatever development attained through having a stable and quality power supply.

No thanks to the NGCP for its shrewd maneuver in hoodwinking the electricity retailers and the consumers.

Even seasoned defense lawyers accredited by the ICC should be extra careful in wording their statements.

Imagine former President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s lead defense lawyer, Nicholas Kaufman, getting hooked in his own mouth.

Kaufman, in justifying his petition for the interim release of Duterte from the ICC detention, cited one reason the former President will “not possibly be able to continue to commit the crime he is charged with” once he is temporarily released.

The Palace spokesperson in Lady Lawyer Claire Castro was quick to say that, in effect, Kaufman was admitting his client indeed committed the crime against humanity that he is accused of.

Will Kaufman clarify his statement, or just totally ignore the minor yet potentially devastating construction of words?
