FORMER lawmaker Pamela Librado registered her name as councilor in the city’s 1st district, under the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod (HTL) Party.
Librado filed her candidacy on Sunday, Oct. 6, the sixth day of filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2025 midterm elections, along with a lineup of the HTL party.
It can be noted that Librado has withdrawn her re-election bid in the 2022 elections after she was dropped from the lineup in 2021, along with Councilor Nilo Abellera Sr.
Reports show that her alleged involvement with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) was the reason for the removal.
Running for the 2025 elections under the party that delisted her, the comebacking councilor said the act has gone through a certain process which she declined to discuss.
“Adunay proseso og kini gihunahuna nato ni og lalom sa pagkonsidera sa pagdagan og usab,” she told reporters.
Librado added her comeback in the city council is a “collective decision” of the family, supporters, and other constituents.
In her stint as the city councilor in her first term in 2019, from which she chaired the 19th City Council committee on labor, she has been an active advocate for workers’ rights.
She had been the champion of Foodpanda and Grab delivery riders for their just compensation and exemption from business permits.
In her comeback, she aims to continue to push her advocacy to help the labor force which she said her support has never ceased despite not being in the government for two years.
Librado said she would strengthen programs for the marginalized sector in the communities. To note, she passed the MAgnegosyo Ta Day ordinance in 2020 providing livelihood assistance for the women during the pandemic, one of the city’s landmark ordinances.
