Reported drug suspect slain in police shootout

AN ALLEGED drug suspect was killed after he reportedly fought the arresting officers during an operation outside Santiago building, F. Bangoy Street, Barangay Tomas Monteverde, Agdao District around 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 24.

The suspect was identified as Jeboy Capoy Amaya, 20, jobless, and a resident of Mason Street, Barangay 27-C, Agdao.

The Sta. Ana Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit, under the supervision of station commander, Maj. Benkalin Baluan, revealed that the undercover officer successfully purchased one sachet of dried marijuana leaves from the suspect.

When the operative revealed introduced himself as a police officer, the suspect reportedly drew his firearm and shot the policeman but missed. The cop then wrestled with Amaya for control of the gun. He was shot when law enforcers retaliated.

The suspect then was rushed him to the Southern Philippines Medical Center but he was already dead before the doctors could attend to him.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives team recovered one homemade .22 caliber pistol with five bullets, one spent cartridge, and three pieces cartridge cases from a .9mm firearm.

Also recovered from the body of alias Jeboy were 12 sachets containing dried marijuana leaves with fruiting tops, one rolled paper containing dried marijuana leaves with fruiting tops, a Coke plastic bottle containing suspected rugby, and P200 cash. The confiscated items had an estimated street market value of P2,000.

Baluan said they received a tip from the barangay intelligence network about the suspect’s illegal activities. Reportedly, aside from marijuana, he also sold shabu and solvent to mostly underage clients in Agdao District.
