Mayor Sara Duterte said on Thursday that the relief goods distribution will continue next week.
The mayor said this is to give time to suppliers to prepare the food packs that will be distributed for the next round of distribution.
On Wednesday, she said the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) has already completed the first round of the distribution of the 428,571 grocery food packs distributed in the 182 barangays. The city government will conduct the relief operations in three consecutive rounds.
She also said that the city government has repacked grocery donations such as rice, canned goods, and noodles and that these food items are ready for distribution to those who do not ration cards from the CSWDO.
“I have given them (CSWDO) a quota with a minimum of 70 (recipients) to cater the backlog from those who were asking for ration but were not provided with ration cards and food card from the City Agri and City Vet,” she said as she added that there were 33 and 44 recipients, on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
Meanwhile, she said the city government also completed the distribution of 20 sacks to each barangays as the city has 182 barangays.
“We asked the barangay captains for their accomplishment report which will form part of the reports we are doing about COVID-19. After submission and validation of their report, they will again be given another (batch) of 20 sacks of rice for their barangays,” Duterte said.
She said there are no challenges as to the supply of rice, but there is only a delay as to the pulling out of the rice allocations for every barangay.
“Sometimes the barangay are unable to claim it on the scheduled day. There is only a delay on the pulling out of rice by the barangay,” she said.
Duterte added that the city government is now ready to release the next round of 20 sacks of rice to the barangays, and that they are only validating the reports submitted by some of the barangay captains.
“There are already 34 barangay captains who have submitted their reports on the use of 20 sacks of rice,” she said.
She pointed out however, that the initial plan was to give out 20 sacks on each of the 182 barangays, but there are some barangays who are in need of more assistance as they have larger populations.
“Our next round will depend on the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) census based the computed population of every barangay,” Duterte said.
The city mayor also said that the Peace 911 still continues its operation in giving hot meals to some 98 identified barangays .
