The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has reminded the public not to be complacent during Holy Week as COVID-19 still poses a threat.
Although there are no official restrictions on public gatherings, precautions should still be taken to prevent the spread of the virus, said Maj Catherine Dela Rey, DCPO spokesperson,
Dela Rey emphasized the importance of being vigilant and taking necessary precautions to protect oneself from the virus. ““Kay wala pa man gi-declare nga wala na ang threat, kita nalang mismo sa atong kaugalingon magbantay. As much as possible, wear a mask kung dili ta gusto ma expose gyud sa virus,” she said.
Dela Rey urged the public to wear face masks and practice social distancing, especially in crowded places such as churches. She also advised carrying face masks in public as some establishments still require these as a precaution to protect their employees.
Dela Rey noted that recent changes in weather, with extreme heat during the day and rain in the evening, have resulted in many people suffering from coughs and colds. She said it is crucial to protect oneself and others from potential infection.
Dela Rey encouraged the public to be mindful of their surroundings and to distance themselves from others if they are not with family members or close acquaintances. She also stressed the importance of not attending public gatherings if one has a cold or a bad cough to prevent infecting others.
“Kung dikit ra kaayo mo sa simbahan, distansya nalang gyud kung dili man lang nimo pamilya imong katapad o kauban. Kung gikalintura mo o grabe ang ubo, ayaw nalang adto aron dili mo makatakod,” she added.
To ensure the safety of the city and its residents during Holy Week, DCPO has deployed 800 personnel. Despite this, individuals should still remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to keep themselves and their communities safe.
