In these trying times, mental health awareness play a vital role to help people cope with the different impacts of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in one’s life like stress, fear, trauma, depression, and anxiety.
These were issues the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) tried to address by hosting a free webinar (an online seminar) entitled, “Keeping Mental Health In-Check: How to Deal Better with the Pandemic” organized by the Sports Psychology Unit.
The online seminar aimed to educate national team coaches on how they could cope with the situation and stress brought by the present health crisis. The webinar also gave pointers on how to coordinate and communicate with their athletes, who are also prone to the same trauma that they are also exposed to during this pandemic.
“This is the best platform for the PSC to make sure that our national team coaches and athletes are mentally healthy during these challenging days,” said PSC Chairman William Ramirez.
The sports chief also believes that there are so many life lessons to ponder on during this health crisis.
“I worry about our athletes and coaches so I have been really pushing our medical team to actively monitor and assist them through the means that are available to us in this ECQ,” Ramirez explained.
The first of a series of webinars was co-anchored by Dr. Cely D. Magpantay and Dr. Rodel P. Canlas of the PSC-MSAS Sports Psychology Unit and was live-streamed on Facebook last May 8.
PSC’s efforts are supported by its partners, PAGCOR, Milo, and Pocari Sweat.
