THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) has recovered a stolen phone and apprehended a minor suspect after the theft incident was caught on video.
DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Tuazon only identified the suspect as a 16-year-old “with intellectual impairment.”
On April 5, a Facebook video of the incident went viral, prompting city police director Col. Richard P. Bad-ang to order a follow-up investigation.
The video uploader, who was also the victim, discovered his Honor 90 phone missing around 9 a.m. The CCTV footage from the victim’s residence showed a man lurking near the house at 3:47 a.m.
Through diligent investigation, the DCPO identified the suspect and recovered the stolen phone. A trained Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) officer assisted the minor and explained the case’s progress.
“The swift action of DCPO personnel and the cooperation of the community led to the swift resolution of this case,” stated the DCPO. “This collaboration enhances our capacity for crime prevention and solution, allowing us to deliver efficient and effective police service,” it added.
The DCPO remains committed to doubling its efforts to prevent such crimes in the future.
