Police battalion bunkers fire cause P1.6-M in damage

AN ESTIMATED P1 million in damage was recorded when a fire gutted bunkers of the 1105th Mobile Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) in Purok 2, Barangay Malagos, Baguio District, around 12:45 p.m. on July 22.

Captain Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said the fire originated from the unattended bunker of Patrolman Ryan Umacob, Pat Millari, and Pat Naupan.

The flames spread to six other bunkers, including the function hall. The inventoried damage included 11 long firearms, 90 long magazines, two short firearms, and 15 magazines, 3,960 pieces of 5.56 ammunition, a Yamaha Nmax motorcycle, and a partially burnt Hyundai vehicle with a total of P1,600,630. 

Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) Calinan investigators, led by SFO3 Andrew G Tom, disclosed that the fire erupted due to electrical overloading. They declared a fire-out at 1:36 p.m. on the same date. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.
