‘One entry, one exit’ at churches

Police authorities want a “one entry, one exit policy” in all churches in the city.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Director Col. Kirby John Kraft said he has already informed Archbishop Romullo Valles on the security measure.

“It means that all churches shall only open one gate for entrance and exit. When the activities are done, then we can open the other gates. In this way, those who intend to commit crime will be blocked,” he said.

Kraft said the security personnel will continue to impose strict inspection on bags and vehicles of churchgoers.

He said the DCPO will provide police personnel to help security guards in securing the churches.

“We are still on maximum security in the churches,” he said.

Churches in the city are requesting for assistance from the city in installing Closed-Circuit Televisions (CCTV) to ensure that crimes will be avoided during the influx of people throughout the Christmas season, said Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSC) head Angel Sumagaysay.

A week after the two blasts that happened at a Catholic Cathedral in Jolo last Jan. 27, Mayor Sara Duterte requested the churches in the city to install CCTV’s to ensure the safety of the churchgoers.

“As of now, there are still few churches who installed CCTVs,” Sumagaysay said.
