Official: Business permit renewal nets P299.6-M so far

The City Treasurer’s Office collected about P299.695 million from business taxes and other fees and charges during the first two weeks of the business permit renewal applications from January 3 to January 16.

City Treasurer Erwin Alparaque said the amount came from the 10,678 taxpayers, out of the 27,846 applications, who paid the business taxes, and other regulatory fees and charges.
Alparaque was confident the agency will be able to reach the target albeit most of the taxpayers are expected to pay on the rush hour especially that the collection period has been extended from the usual 20 days to 30 days this year.
The target for this year, he said, is about P1.3 billion, the same amount that it was able to collect last year. The target is to approve the renewal of permits of 39,514 businesses. Last year, 25,015 renewed their permits.
“Considering that the renewal of business permit and the payment of business taxes fees and charges have been extended until January 31, based on the number of business permit paid, it really shows that there is still a low number of payors for the first two weeks,” said Alparaque.
“Every day, there are 1,500 to 2,500 permits that have been paid. As the usual practice of our taxpayers, we expect the influx of payers on the last seven days of the collection,” he added.
