No need to hide gov’t info on COVID-19: Sara

MAYOR Sara Duterte assured that the city government is not withholding any information and data in relation to COVID-19.

This, after messages circulated online about alleged cases of COVID-19 in the city, which have not been included in the daily updates.

Speaking over the city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio, the mayor reminded the public not to believe in rumors and wait for the official announcement of the city government or the Department of Health.

“These are things that should not be kept hidden, handing out information should not be surreptitious to make it seem the information is highly confidential,” she said.

She added that the city government is very open and does not intend to hide any information since the public has the right to be informed on the updates regarding the virus.

“The city government will not do that to Davaoeños because it is important for us that people are aware of timely and accurate information so that the residents can also properly respond and plan their actions,” the mayor said.

Duterte added that the public should take note of the red flags when assessing information. For instance, if they are told to keep the information secret, they should already be wary about its veracity. Also, she urged the public to inquire from the city’s hotlines or call the Department of Health to verify the information.
