NFEM, DSWD XI welcome navy vessel loaded with 40,800 food packs

THE  NAVAL Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development XI will transport the 40,800 food packs to the calamity-afflicted families in the region.

Lt Commander Jerome Bryan Mauring, the NFEM Public Affairs Office chief, said they help the victims by providing transportation for the relief goods and manpower for the hauling of food packs. 

“NFEM will always respond to the people’s call for assistance during calamities or emergencies and will readily deploy its assets to assist in calamity-stricken areas ensuring flexible and timely delivery,” he added.

The DSWD XI welcomed the arrival of the BRP Davao del Sur (LD602) loaded with 40,800 family food packs (FFPs) at the Globalports Davao Terminal on Feb. 18, 2024.

The food packs came from the DSWD central office’s National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau.

Present in the ceremonial unloading were DSWD XI regional director Atty. Vanessa B. Goc-ong; Dahlia S. Padillo, assistant regional director for operations and concurrent chief of the Disaster Response
Management Division; Mark Lester S. Tan, Globalports Davao Terminal operations manager; Deputy Commander Captain Constancio Arturo M. Reyes representing Commo. Carlos V. Sabarre of NFEM; and BRP Davao del Sur commanding officer CDR Marco DJ Sandalo.

Goc-ong thanked partners and stakeholders, including the Office of the Civil Defense XI and Philippine Ports Authority XI, for the successful and timely docking of BRP Davao del Sur.

The food packs were hauled to the DSWD XI warehouse ready for pick-up by the requesting LGUs affected by the shear line and the trough of the low pressure area.

As of Feb. 18, DSWD XI already extended a total of 145,895 food and non-food items (FNFIs) with a total of P238,993,568.00 to shear line-affected families in the region while 221,835 FNFIs amounting to P148,634,722.60 were distributed to LPA trough-affected families. DSWD XI/Ezri M. Coda Jr
