New P25-M evacuation site Opens in Bunawan District

THE CITY government hee has opened its evacuation center for the second district in Purok 9, Barangay Mahayag in Bunawan District.

The P25-million building will serve as a temporary shelter for people of Paquibato, Bunawan, Buhangin A, and B districts who will be affected during a disaster. This can also serve for calamity-affected residents from other barangays, if needed.

Minda Silvano, center-in-charge, in an interview with Byaheng D030 on Thursday, said that the evacuation center is equipped with a kitchen area, wash area, toilets, storage room, clinic, lying-in room, and a child-friendly room.

“The center can accommodate 300 persons who will need temporary shelter due to various calamities. Basic gyod nato ihatag is the food, naa tay gina prepare diri nga food para pag once nga mahatod sila dri ma feed nato, especially the children, women, pregnant women and the older persons. I-master list pud sila para ma prepare ilang financial assistance (The center can accommodate 300 persons who will need temporary shelter due to various calamities. The basic item that we can immediately provide once they arrive at the center is food that we will prepare for them, especially the children, women, pregnant women, and older persons. We will also list them for financial assistance),” Silvano said.

Alfredo Baloran, City Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) head, said the construction of the facility started the first quarter of last year. “Mao ni ikaduha nato [nga evacuation center]. Ang first is naa ta sa Los Amigos (This is our second evacuation center. The first is the Los Amigos),” he said.

Baloran said there are also two regional evacuation centers–one is located in Los Amigos and the second is in Eden, Toril which is still under construction. There are also ongoing negotiations for available areas in Mandug for another regional evacuation center site.

Nagapangita pa ta og other sites nga pwde matukuran og evacuation center. Nakita man gud nato nga in times of naay kalamidad ang atong kaigsoonan kinahanglan gyud nato sila nga maplastar maayo pud ang ilang kapoy-an temporarily while waiting for sa ilang transfer kung asa sila ibutang sa city government (We are still looking for other sites where we can build evacuation centers. Temporary shelters for Dabawenyos are really needed in times of calamities while they (calamity victims) are waiting to be transfered by the city government),” Baloran said.
