New bus route connects CDO to Mati, traversing former conflict zones in Bukidnon and Davao del Norte

A BUS route connecting Cagayan de Oro City to Mati City in Davao Oriental via San Fernando, Bukidnon, and Talaingod, Davao del Norte, was launched on March 3, 2025, promising to boost peace and development in areas previously affected by conflict.

The new route, operated by Rural Transit Mindanao, Inc. (RTMI), was inaugurated in a ceremony at the municipal grounds of San Fernando, attended by local officials and representatives of the 89th Infantry (Makatao) Battalion.

First Lieutenant John Andrew Gloriani, Alpha Company commander of the 89th Infantry Battalion, hailed the new bus route as a “transformative initiative” that will bring economic growth and tourism to the region.

“For years, these areas were marked by insurgency, instability, and fear, making travel unsafe and economic development nearly impossible,” Lt. Gloriani said.

“Today, these same regions stand as symbols of peace, resilience, and renewal, ready to welcome visitors eager to explore their breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and untapped tourism potential.”

San Fernando Mayor Rogelio C. Yeke echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the new route is “a gateway to progress.”

“What was once known for conflict and fear is now open to travelers, entrepreneurs, and tourists,” Mayor Yeke said. “We are proud to be part of this transformation.”

The new bus route is expected to significantly improve accessibility to and from these areas, opening up opportunities for trade, tourism, and investment.

It also symbolizes the progress made in achieving peace and stability in the region.
