Man missing as floods hit city, bares CDRRMO

THE City Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office (CDRRMC) reported Tuesday that a 35-year old man was missing when strong current of water carried him during a heavy downpour on Monday in Purok Acacia, Barangay Tamugan.

Alfredo Baloran, CDRRMO chief, said that the heavy rain which resulted in flooding, also displaced about 200 families.

Baloran said Nilo Ocat, 35, was trying to salvage falling trees when a strong water current from Davao swept him.

The heavy rain, which was caused by a low pressure area, affected several bodies of water in the city that resulted in floods. Those affected were the Davao River, Lasang River, Lipadas River, Talomo River, and Matina River.

This resulted in the displacement of some residents in areas near the rivers.

Baloran said his office has continued to monitor the impact of the rains, although he said the office has made sure that minimum public health protocols are followed in evacuation centers due to COVID-19 pandemic.
