Less than 1 in 4 Mindanaoans are satisfied with PBBM;  Only 25% in Metro Manila are satisfied with VP Sara Duterte  — WR Numero September 2024 survey

ONLY ONE in four Mindanaoans are satisfied with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s performance, according to the September 2024 national survey of non-partisan public opinion firm WR Numero.

The latest Philippine Public Opinion Monitor reported that only 24% of Filipinos in Mindanao are satisfied with the president’s performance, 46% are dissatisfied, and 31% are unsure. On the other hand, he is more favored in Luzon, with 54%, followed by Metro Manila (48%) and Visayas (45%) (Figure 1).

Positive ratings for President Marcos Jr. in Mindanao dropped below 25% for the first time. This is 8 percentage points lower than 32% in March, and a 40-percentage-point decline from 66% in December 2023.

The president’s figures in Mindanao fall below his national satisfaction performance rating of 45%.

In contrast, Vice President Sara Duterte remains popular in Mindanao, with 69% of Filipinos from the region saying they’re satisfied with her performance, followed by Visayas (50%) and Luzon (41%). The vice president, however, suffers unpopularity in Metro Manila, where only one in four viewed her performance favorably in September 2024 (Figure 2).

Despite high approval, the vice president’s Mindanao positive rating in September dropped 11 percentage points from March (80%). The decline in her performance satisfaction rating is more pronounced in Metro Manila where her ratings dropped by 20 percentage points, and dipped by 14 percentage points in the rest of Luzon from her March numbers (See Figure 2).

The vice president’s Mindanao and Visayas ratings placed above her national satisfaction rating of 47% (See Figure 3).

This nationally representative face-to-face survey was conducted from September 5 to 23, 2024, with a sample of 1,729 adults aged 18 and older. The nationwide survey has a margin of error of ± 2% at a 95% confidence level. At the sub-national level, the margin of error is ± 6% for the National Capital Region, ± 5% for North and Central Luzon, ± 5% for South Luzon, ± 6% for Visayas, and ± 5% for Mindanao, all at the same 95% confidence level.

The findings are part of the WR Numero Philippine Public Opinion Monitor. In addition to the preliminary findings, it will include survey results on pre-election preferences for the 2028 presidential and vice-presidential races, as well as public opinion on key national issues such as tensions in the West Philippine Sea, controversies surrounding Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO), and support for investigations into Pastor Apollo Quiboloy’s cases.
