DepEd to suspend DAVRAA games if heat is extreme

THE DEPARTMENT of Education won’t hesitate to suspend the Davao Regional Athletic Association (DAVRAA) Meet 2024 if the heat rises to dangerous levels.

DepEd XI spokesperson Jenielito Atillo reiterated this due to concern about the rising heat index as he said the safety of the student-athletes will never be compromised.

During the AFP-PNP Press Corps on March 27, Atillo said the games in the meet will be suspended at 10 a.m. and resume at 3 p.m. depending on their assessment.

Lig-on ang programa karon sa health, wellness and safety sa atong delegation and host city,” Atillo said.

He added referral hospitals and health personnel will ensure prompt response during emergencies and urgent cases requiring immediate medical attention.

The City Sports Development Division earlier said they are working closely with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to regularly monitor the weeklong event.

Meanwhile, the delegations are advised against getting their food anywhere other than the meals prepared at the billeting venues to ensure quality and safety.

“We have to be very sure that food and water intake, should come from the appropriate channel,” he added.

The DAVRAA Meet runs from April 1-7. Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte graced the opening program at the University of the Philippines-Mindanao in Tugbok.
