THE PAMULAK sa Kadayawan and Indak Indak sa Kadayawan will formally close the 39th Kadayawan Festival with a bang on Aug. 18.
On July 31 at Wednesday Habi at Kape, Kadayawan event organizer Harold Quibete said that the combining of the two major Kadayawan events in one day will be the biggest event to extend the viewing for the public and to highlight more of the entertainment on the last day of Kadayawan.
Quibete explained that Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan in the previous festival was a standalone event. The city government also aims to provide a better version of the Kadayawan festival every year.
He added that the number of participants will be higher than last year with a target of 25 contingents and 20 floats to join the two major events. As of now, 17 contingents (estimated around 2,550 participants) have confirmed to join the Indak Indak sa Kadayawan, and a total of 18 corporate floats to attend the Pamulak sa Kadayawan.
“The deadline was yesterday (June 30) but we extended it to entertain more interested contingents and entries for the Pamulak sa Kadayawan,”
The deadline for submissions for the entries is extended until Aug. 7 with a briefing with the contingent managers on Aug. 9.
However, Quibete said that the budget for the Pamulak and Indak Indak sa Kadayawan was slightly lower compared to last year with an estimated amount of P10 million. He explained that the merging of the two events contributed to reducing the budget.
“It’s a lot cheaper this year because we have saved manpower because it’s run by the same team but we have two separate events,” he said.
The prices for the Indak Indak sa Kadayawan event have also changed with an added P100,000 totaling P1.1 million for the grand winner of the open category. The Davao City school-based category will still be P1 million.
In preparation for the events, Quibete has coordinated with the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO), and City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) for the minimal road closures. Mega tents will be provided for both competing contingents and audiences that can accommodate 1,500 seats.
