Job fair seen to hire 2,000 on the spot

The job fair that the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI is holding during the first two days of May is expected to hire about 4,000 on the spot, or 20% of the expected 20, vacancies that will be made available during the event.“We are comprehensively preparing for the huge job fair this May. We’ve been targeting to achieve at least  15 to 20% applicants to be hired on the spot; but we are aiming to exceed that,”  DOLE XI Employment Focal Person Marlito D. Ayala told TIMES.

Ayala said those that are expected to recruit the biggest numbers of workers will be the construction, manufacturing, food production, customer service, and business process outsourcing sectors.

The agency has invited 70 local and 50 overseas companies to participate in the event and that they would offer about 20,000 vacancies.

Last year, the DOLE XI and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) XI signed memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the holding of the event as they agreed to “offer employment to job applicants and encourage them to venture into business.”

This year, DOLE XI will be focusing more on local hiring than of overseas.  “For local companies, labor placement is easier while for the overseas, there are more processes and requirements that need to be complied with,” Ayala said.

DTI XI on the other hand will offer assistance to job seekers who want to consider entrepreneurial and business opportunities. This will include trainings, business advisory services, market promotion and brand development.
