THE CONSULATE General of Japan in Davao turned over 12 medical laboratory equipment to the local government of New Corella in Davao del Norte on July 30, 2024. The initiative, titled “The Project for Procurement of Medical Laboratory Equipment,” aims to enhance diagnostic capabilities and healthcare services for the community.
The turnover ceremony was graced by Consul General ISHIKAWA Yoshihisa, Vice Consul ODA Akari, Mayor Jorjan Federiso, Vice Mayor Pedro Lagumbay Jr., Municipal Health Officer Dr. Nancy Cacayorin, Provincial Health Office Representative Ian Patrick Vidal, some members of the Sangguniang Bayan, and local government personnel.
In response to the challenges faced by New Corella residents in accessing medical services, the Consulate General of Japan in Davao, through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), provided a grant amount of USD 76,236, or approximately 4.2 million pesos. This funding facilitated the procurement of 12 essential medical laboratory equipment namely, chemistry analyzer, hematology analyzer, laboratory autoclave, hematocrit centrifuge, two units of laboratory centrifuge, two units of digital microscopes, water bath, biosafety cabinet, urine analyzer, and vacuum drying oven.
In his address, Consul General Ishikawa expressed his hope that the new equipment would lead to faster and more accurate diagnoses, reducing the need for residents to travel long distances for medical tests and procedures. This initiative underscores Japan’s commitment to supporting grassroots development projects that address community concerns. “We hope this project empowers healthcare workers, improves patient care, and ultimately saves lives,” he said.
The Consulate General of Japan in Davao remains committed to fostering peace and development in Mindanao. This turnover ceremony reaffirms the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Japan and the Philippines, aiming for a brighter future for all.
GGP is part of Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA), which has been supporting development projects that directly address community concerns.
