HONORING MY MOTHER | SOMETHING’S A-BREWING BUT IT’S NOT THE COFFEE

The countless images one might have seen coming from cities and localities all over the
world which documented huge and united birthday celebrations for an old man, tells one
its significance will not end there. While it may have filled one’s social media page for a
day or a number of days, what remains to be seen is its weight and impact once the
“birthday” fever has all but gone down.

Even if those who initiated the first moves will like to gloat and view their actions as
masterful bits of genius, their failing to anticipate the seemingly–global reaction to their
deed, tells of an incompetence that badly needs divine intervention. You are what you
eat so to speak, or, at the risk of being classified rude, karma is a _ (female dog).
Whatever it is, eventually, there’s an end to it all and alas, it won’t favor them.

I was looking at what a friend posted on his page this morning and one can only marvel
at what can change in just a span of six short years. The first video, filmed during the 3 rd
year of the previous presidency, showed a short clip of the 2019 Sea Games opening
ceremonies and overall, it depicted the closest thing to national pride one could capture
in just a few minutes. The second video, a montage of news reports during the 3 rd year
of this present administration, showed the disturbing events that have befallen the
country. The comparison between the two speaks volumes and trying to dredge up
whatever lesson could be gotten from it is not rocket science.

Which leaves us to what we have all been asking since high school, Quo Vadis,
Pilipinas? Where are we going? I cannot believe, while during most of the previous
administration’s residency, all appeared hopeful and we were already asking, are we
there yet. Now, with a shaking of the head, the question is why?

Whatever is up ahead, as sure as karma, the precursor will always be hard rain before
the calm. As for those who prioritize greed over the interest of the whole, theirs is but a
sorry ending; not that we wish it. It might be wise to remember, as someone recently
said, some people are not here to evolve, they are here to remind us what it will look
like if you don’t.
