Hard lockdown : Barangay zone placed on hard lockdown over rising virus cases

THE DAVAO City COVID-19 Task Force has initiated a hard lockdown on Purok 8, Barangay Tomas Monteverde starting 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

According to the city government, this is to preempt the possible spread of the infection in the area due to the rising number of positive cases.

At least 65 individuals were also evacuated and brought to a temporary treatment and monitoring facility (TTMF) after they were flagged by the RT-PCR test.

“Nobody can go in or go out except atong mo-adtog (those who will go to the) hospital, or it’s an emergency,” Mayor Sara Duterte said in her radio program.

She also said the City Social Welfare and Development Office is already instructed to make sure the affected residents have enough food ration. The City Veterinarian’s Office and the City Agricultural will also distribute fresh produce.

Meanwhile, the city government advised everyone to avoid Barangay Kapitan Tomas Monteverde.

Col. Consolito Yecla, the Task Force Davao commander, said that they sent two squads to help secure the area and also play support to the police officers and health officials implementing the lockdown.

Instead of reverting to the enhanced community quarantine, the city government will continue to implement localized lockdowns.

When an area is on lockdown, residents are required to undergo a 14-day home quarantine. Affected residents will be tested on the 14th day again and some of them may be transferred to an isolation facility.

The individuals who are locked down may have been exposed to a positive COVID-19 patient or identified in the contact tracing. The city government provides ration and psychosocial support for residents under lockdown.

On July 4, the entire Barangay 23-C was placed on hard lockdown to control the spread of the virus after the community recorded 88 confirmed cases and two deaths. On July 20, the lockdown was downgraded to the purok and household levels after only two tested positive from the 58 random samples.
