SOUTHWEST Monsoon or Habagat on Monday is affecting several areas of the country, Davao city included, according to PAGASA,state weather bureau.
In its 4 a.m. advisory, the city will have partly cloudy skies to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the Habagat.
PAGASA Davao chief meteorologist Lolita Vinalay said the conditions, will possibly cause flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
“Posible ang pagbaha ug pagdahili sa yuta kung adunay masinati nga severe thunderstorm,” Vinalay said in Davao City Disaster Radio interview.
The same weather condition is forecasted to prevail in the city and the rest of the region until Aug, 9. The city and the rest of the region will likely experience early morning rains.
Meanwhile, two Low Pressure Areas (LPA) were spotted at 3 a.m. on Monday. One is estimated at 1,155 km East Northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon, while the other is outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
Vinalay said there is a small chance the LPA will develop into a typhoon, however, the development is still being monitored.
“Ang usa layo sa Davao region kay tua nahimutang sa kinatumyang amihan ng Luzon, ug ang isa ka LPA gawas sa PAR ug layo sa Davao City ug sa karon wala pa siyay direkta nga epekto sa region,” she added.
For the wind forecast, winds will be light to moderate from the southwest, while coastal waters will be slight to moderate with 0.6 to 2.1 meters.
