Panabo City – The KD Green Lions used their vaunted speed game to successfully fend off all sorts of resistance next to the DavNor Defenders, 74-60 to secure its first win in the first season of the Relampagos Basketball League (RBL) Board Members Cup held at the Salvacion Gym in Panabo City, Saturday.
Tirso Lesmoras led the charge for the Green Lions with an impressive 17 points, three rebounds and four assists. He scored most of his points on hard drives to the basket and on lay ups set up by the pin point passing of the Lions’ guard Arnel “Japs” Sabio.
Jess Sicat also provided the much needed inside presence for the Lions. He ended up with 11 points while Boy Sumatra led the Defenders with 14 points, a lone assist and two steals but clearly lacked the needed support from his teammates to stop the Lions’ onslaught.
The Green Lions have now chalked up two straight wins to set up a mouth-watering showdown with the also unbeaten City Mayor’s Office of Panabo on Saturday, October 19, with the winner securing the top spot in Group A. The top spot guarantees a twice to beat advantage in the cross over quarterfinals.
In the first game, the RFC Financiers survived the Justice Leaguers’ scoring machine Gary Aripudin to come up on top 81-74.
It was a hotly contested match-up which saw the Justice Leaguers rally from 18 points down only to fall short as RFC’s PJ Simbajon and Quin Saldon took turns in keeping their team on poised for the victory. Simbajon ended up with 11 points and 3 rebounds while Saldon scored 10 points.
Aripudin topscored for the Justice Leaguers with 18 points.
The RBL Board Member’s Cup was founded by Davao Del Norte Board Member Atty. Janris Jay “Jigs” Relampagos and PAO Panabo District Head Atty. Arvin Laguindam with Jek Melendres as commissioner, John Michael Demain as technical committee head and Jun Dionglay as event and graphic designer, in coordination with the City Mayor’s Office of Panabo City.
