SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go led the ceremonial turnover of ambulances for Mati City and the municipalities of Baganga, Boston, Caraga, Cateel, Manay, Tarragona, Lupon, and San Isidro on Dec. 23.
The initiative was part of the senator’s commitment to enhancing public health services, particularly in underserved areas. The turnover was held in SP Compound covered court, Barangay Dahican, Mati City.
As chairperson of the Senate’s health committee, Go played a pivotal role in advocating for funding for the project, ensuring that residents of these areas would have better access to emergency healthcare services.
The provision of ambulances underscores the government’s efforts to address the healthcare needs of Filipinos, especially at the grassroots.
“Ang mga ambulansya na ito ay simbolo ng malasakit at agarang aksyon para sa mga nangangailangan ng serbisyong medikal (These ambulances symbolizes the compassion and immediate action for people in need of medical services),” said Senator Go. “Dapat hindi maging hadlang ang layo ng lugar o kakulangan ng resources sa pagbibigay ng tamang atensyong medikal. Patuloy nating ilapit ang serbisyo sa mga kababayan natin (The distance or limited resources should not hinder us from giving medical attention. We will continue to bring services closer to the people).”
Go emphasized that his support for the project reflects his long-standing advocacy for improving the country’s healthcare system. He also pointed out the importance of local government units (LGUs) in ensuring the proper use and maintenance of the vehicles.
The beneficiary municipalities are home to communities where access to immediate medical care is often hampered by distance and limited resources. These vehicles are expected to bridge that gap and save lives in critical situations.
Meanwhile, Go acknowledged the efforts of local officials, particularly the local chief executives of each municipality and city to ensure the initiative’s success.
Aside from these ambulances, Go supported the rehabilitation of crucial roads in Banaybanay, Baganga, Boston, Caraga, Lupon, Manay, and San Isidro. He also backed the construction of multipurpose buildings, street lighting initiatives in Lupon and Banaybanay, and potable water systems in Baganga, Lupon, and Manay. Flood mitigation and drainage structures were built, along with a slaughterhouse in San Isidro.
For instance, Go helped acquire a motor vehicle for Lupon and additional ambulances for Baganga, Boston, Caraga, Cateel, Manay, and Tarragona.
In Mati City, Go championed the construction of several roads, the Davao Oriental Sports Complex, and the rehabilitation of Buso Hot Spring Park. He also promoted the development of a public park/eco-tourism park to enhance tourism and recreational opportunities.
The senator has also been active in supporting education in Davao Oriental. Last month, he supported the Senate’s approval of House Bill Nos. 10441 and 10442, aiming to establish two new national high schools in the province—Manikling National High School in San Isidro and Maputi National High School in Banaybanay.
On the same day, Go also attended the turnover of two Super Health Centers in Lupon and distributed aid to indigent residents. He likewise attended the opening of the citywide Musabaqah Sports Activity.
