BOOSTER | Immunocompromised sector to get 2nd shot starting today

THE rollout for a second booster shot against COVID-19 for immunocompromised individuals who are 18 and above starts today, said Dr. Josephine Villafurete, head of the City COVID-19 Vaccination Cluster.

Aside from the availability of all vaccines either for homologous or heterologous application, Villafuerte said teams who will administer the vaccination process and the sites are all prepared.

The rollout for the next booster shot is based on the guidelines released by the National Vaccine Operation Center on April 22, which provides the availability of the second dose to all immunocompromised population provided they are 18 and above.

They are the ones who are in immunodeficiency state for either HIV; active cancer or malignancy, transplant recipients; undergoing steroid treatment; patients with poor prognosis/bedridden patients; and, other conditions of immunodeficiency as certified by a physician.

They can avail of the jab three months after the first booster shot and that they will allowed to choose whether the want homologous shot, or the same vaccine from the all doses that they took, or heterologous dependent on the availability of the vaccines based on the approval of the Food and Drug Administration.
